I've been playing online poker for the last couple of months and there are some things which were not clear to me. Now with this information in mind, I'll be more comfortable playing and betting. One piece of advice from me to all the other poker players out there: know when to quit and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble!

Rules

If you've ever wanted to know how to play poker, here are the basic rules. These rules also apply to online poker. Basics There are a variety of variations appropriate for 2 to 14 players, but for most variations the best number of players is from 6 to 8. The game's object is to take the 'pot', which is the total of every bet made during the hand. To win the pot, a player must have either the best hand or make a bet which no one is willing to call. Cards When you play poker, you use the usual 52-card deck, with cards made up of four suits: hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. These cards are ranked A, when the ace is high, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and A when the ace is low, as in for example, a straight 5-4-3-2-A. Sometimes, most typically during "dealer's choice", specific cards are designated as wild cards. A wild card serves as whatever card the holder names. There are certain cards which are typically designated wild. Most card packs come with 53 cards, as they contain an extra card, a joker. This card is frequently made wild. There's also "deuces wild", when all Number 2 cards are wild. Then there are the one-eyed cards, the jack of spades and jack of hearts, both shown in profile as is the king of diamonds. Generally, only the one-eyed jacks are wild, though the option exists to make the king wild, as well. Ranking of poker hands: A royal flush beats a straight flush. A straight flush beats four of a kind.
