History

This form of Poker is based on an ancient Chinese game known as Pai Gow, which in Chinese means 'make nine'. The original game is still played in China, and it's quite difficult to learn, very enigmatic and employs a special form of esoteric symbolism. Pai Gow Poker, however, is easy to learn since it's built upon traditional Poker hands. The version of the game played with cards, which is also called Double Hand Poker, was invented by Sam Torosian and Fred Wolf. Wolf owned a casino in California, and he introduced the game there, where it became an instant hit. By the time it found its way into the casinos of Las Vegas in 1987, its popularity was guaranteed thanks to its exposure in California. In 1988, Pai Gow Poker was being played in Atlantic City and its popularity has been steadily rising ever since.
