Players usually make two basic mistakes when playing Caribbean Stud. These errors are folding when they're holding a small pair, and trying to bluff the dealer while holding a weak hand. First things first, you should never fold when you're holding small pairs. Statistically, you'll get a pair around 42% of the time. If you call rather than fold, you'll have a better chance at winning, as the house holds a 7% edge over players who fold their small pairs. Secondly, don't ever consider bluffing the dealer. Some players think that they'll win more hands if they call the bet even with a poor hand. They're calculating that if the dealer fails to qualify, he'll pay off the ante wager for anyone who stays in no matter how weak the player's hand is. What this strategy fails to take into consideration is that around 56% of the time, the dealer will qualify and the player will lose not just his ante, but also the call wager, which is double the size of the ante.
