Some interesting details uncovered here, I am happy someone made the effort to put some background information on the game history...
The rules are easy and I had absolutely no trouble making money form this game even on the first time I played Black Jack. I only wish there were some more variations of the game.

The history of blackjack begins in 17th century France, where they played a game in the casinos called Vingt En Un. In French, Vingt-en-Un means "21", and while this game is perhaps not blackjacks oldest ancestor, it is clear that which evidently was not the first ancestor of blackjack, but it's clear that blackjack did originate though there are differences between the rules of the two games. In Vingt en Un the dealer was the only one was permitted to double and the betting system was a bit more involved than in modern blackjack. But just as in todays blackjack, the goal in Vingt-en-Un was to achieve a total of 21 and the cards had the same numerical values as in modern blackjack. The name blackjack is due to a unique rule in Vingt en Un, which concerned a hand with an Ace of spades and a Jack of either black suit, hence the name Black Jack. It's the best hand you could get in Vingt en Un. The games next major historical development was the games migration to America after the French Revolution. In America the popularity of the game exploded thanks to the lack of laws prohibiting gambling games during that period of history. It was then that gamblers started to take an interest in the game as they came to understand the potential for turning the odds to their advantage.
