This game is also known as twenty-one and pontoon and it is a gambling card game which is played at casinos all over the world. Its exact origins are unclear, but it is undoubtedly a descendent of a couple of different Italian and French gambling games. It has been known in Britain as pontoon since the First World War. The goal of the game is to have cards totaling 21 or to come nearer to 21 than the dealer, though without going over. Each player plays against the dealer. Aces are counted as 1 or 11, while face cards are counted as 10, and the remaining cards are counted according to number of the card itself. A hand which contains both an ace and a face card or a 10 is known as blackjack or a natural. The suits of the cards are ignored. In most games, when a player gets two cards of the same rank, he will be able to split them, after which he's dealt another card for each. He then plays each hand separate from one another.
