With so many natural health-boosting supplements on the market, it’s easy to get overwhelmed about which ones may suit you. One in particular that has reached unprecedented levels of popularity in the last couple of years, is the humble acai berry.

Appearing in features on Oprah and Dr Oz, this little purple berry has very quickly become a Hollywood favourite. But what is the acai berry all about? Read on, and see if this may be the health supplement that you have been looking for!

What is the Acai Berry?

Acai berries are small purple berries, relatives of the blueberry and cranberry, which are native to the rainforests of South America.

For centuries, the acai berry has been a staple of the indigenous people of the Amazon, who believe the berry helps them grow and become strong.

It’s only in the last few years that research has started to show that there may be some truth behind this, and that the berry may be a powerful health booster!

Why Are Acai Berries So Good For Our Health?

Acai berries are packed full of antioxidants. Antioxidants play an important role in our bodies, by mopping up excessive free radicals, which are the result of all the millions of chemical reactions that happen continuously in our cells to keep our bodies functioning. These free radicals are highly energetic, and bash around inside our cells, causing huge amounts of damage.

In fact, free radicals are now known to contribute significantly to the aging process, as well as to illnesses like cancer and heart disease. The antioxidant found in high concentrations in acai berries is called anthocyanin. Anthocyanins are also found in red wine and other colourful fruits, and are known to be particularly effective at ensuring a healthy heart.

You may have started seeing acai berry extract in your cosmetics- this is also due to its antioxidant power, and its ability to slow the aging of the skin. But the antioxidants are actually more effective if you eat them, since the body has the ability to send them exactly where they are needed! So eating acai berries will certainly help towards the glowing, young-looking skin that we all would love to have!

Studies have shown that acai berries have anti-inflammatory qualities, and can be a useful supplement to those suffering from IBS; and since they are a good source of fibre, they are great at helping to keep digestion health at an optimum. Although research is ongoing, the anti-inflammatory effect of acai berries could be used for joint pain, and allergies, since they act in a similar way to anti-histamines.

Of course, the main reason they became a Hollywood must is because acai berries are thought to be an effective weight-loss aid. This is because they can increase metabolism, whilst at the same time suppressing the appetite. And since they also are able to boost energy levels, they help any dieter get up and moving, so they can shift those pounds even faster!

What People on the Web Say:

Delighted With the Results!

Having read quite a lot of information on Acai berries I was still skeptical about their benefits, but still decided to give it a go. I have been delighted with the results! After only 8 days of taking Acai I feel that I have a lot more energy and although I did not especially want them as a slimming aid I find that I have stopped snacking between meals and have lost about 3-4lbs. I would certainly recommend them to my friends. Acai has been reported to be helpful in reducing cholesterol and as my cholesterol is higher than it should be I am looking forward to having a test in a few weeks.

My first time to try these diet supplements, so after reading some positive feedback regarding Acai Berries I thought I would give them a try, and after only 2 days was feeling the benefits. Energy levels are up and instead of wanting to snack all day I don’t feel the need. I do not feel hungry and can now be more choosy in the food I do eat. I am sure the pounds will start to drop off.

Lost 5 Kgs!

MI have been hearing about the effects of Acai berries, but I have also heard that it is important to choose the specific product wisely. I tried it for a month and I am happy that I did. Not only did I lose 5 KG but I also began feeling better about myself. I am now more confident about the way I look and the way I do my job. I do not get tired too easily anymore so at work I am able to finish my tasks on time and still have time to do extra work.

Definitely Increased My Metabolism!

These berries have definitely increased my metabolism. I started taking these to help me with a new exercise routine of 30mins power walking per day, plus cycling and home work-outs. I have gone down to 10:13 so far from 11:11 so I am very pleased! I have more stamina and therefore more incentive to exercise. I am also satisfied on a smaller portion so I make sure I eat small amounts, but quality food – lots of fruit and veg.
